Teak Bookcases
Teak wood is one of the rarer woods used for bookcases.
Teak bookcases come in many varieties; it is a tropical, "rain forest" wood,
so some species of teak are endangered and should
not be used for bookcases, or for any other furniture,
for that matter. However, some teak is grown on tree farms, and some teak is
reclaimed. The teak that Carmel Bookcases uses never comes from virgin rain
forests; you can rest assured of our commitment to environmental justice.
Teak begins as a dark wood, and it also ages. It has extremely
good water resistance, if you have a specialized or high humidity application.
Teak is a hardwood; it is available from Malaysia,
Honduras and several other tropical countries, although unlike cherry bookcases
and oak bookcases, it is not grown in the United States.
